	  |
Prior work included providing database solutions for the
U.S.D.A. Animal Products Branch as a contractor for Vista Computers, Inc. to
convert USDA from a legacy DOS based database system into a seamless
transition to Windows GUI applications as a substitute for the outdated DOS
applications while maintaining backward compatibility, current workflow of
the USDA and fool proofing the final result. Providing a MS-Windows based
solution was made more difficult by the critical need by USDA to link
different vendor software packages as well as write custom add-in user
controls, still maintain security on the token-ring IBM LAN and do it all in
less than three months. I wrote most of the deliverable contract
specifications, helped to secure the contract and then worked onsite at USDA
to fulfill the contract using developer tools for MS-ACCESS and LOTUS 5
based GUI tools to link 60+ databases into a useful database solution for
    USDA.
        |
	  |
As a founder and chief technical support and network
engineer at "Vision Enterprises, Inc." I serve many roles to provide full
and personal solutions for small business customers on site via contract and
hourly pay per call onsite work. Clients included: L.S. Caldwell and
Associates, Abrams Construction Company, Marianne Segura, Kids Moving
Company, Meals Express, Inc., and many others. Solutions ranged from
installation of small LANs and Office suite packages to Point of Sale
Applications, Custom Accounting programs, and multiple relational database
integration. Provided information management and lead technical support for
most projects. Implementation efforts included the installation of PC,
Macintosh, and Network workstations with HP/Compaq, and IBM, products and
terminals across OS platforms. Specialties included: Alpha 4/5 Relational
Database programming, MS-Access/Office, Foxpro, Dbase, Lotus 123, Novell, MS
Windows, Lantastic, Windows NT Server, LAN/WAN
    products in an Ethernet-TCP/IP environment.
        |
	  |
As a Research Assistant and graduate student working on my
Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University, Ames,
Iowa I received honorable mention and a special $5,000 award for the
National Science Foundations graduate fellowship program. I worked on solar
cell research and amorphous silicon applications. This graduate work/study
was not completed due to illness in my family.
        |
	  |
As a Physics Major at Talladega College, Talladega, Alabama,
on the dean’s list, I was invited to compete for a rare summer internship
in microelectronics and solid state physics at the AT&T Bell
Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. Accepted as a full member of the
technical staff, I worked with Dr. Roosevelt People on lab experiments on
breakthrough semiconductor hybrid materials such as gallium arsenide for
devices using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) techniques to study quantum well
    device layouts, etc.
        |
	  |
As a Physics major at Talladega College with engineering and
telecommunications interests I was able to work as a summer intern at the
Capitol Video Communications, Inc. office located in Washington, D.C. near
Georgetown. Capitol Video’s President hired me personally after meeting me
one day while I was in Washington attending the ITVA conference on budgeting
productions. I worked as the full time engineering assistant to Bill Lorenz,
Vice President for Engineering, and also as assistant to Edward Kennedy,
chief engineer. I trained on the state of the art professional video editing
systems using digital time coding and other SMPTE standards I came to learn.
I had the freedom and opportunity to write, produce and direct my own
personal video project as well as assist on others. I became a certified
videographer and a student member of ITVA (Intl. TV Assoc.) and SMPTE
(Society of Motion Picture & TV Engineers). Low cost Macintosh and PC
graphic and sound systems as well as high cost professional on-line and
off-line editing systems were setup and used from major manufacturers. We
always had the state of the art in analog and digital video graphics systems
and film-to-video transfer technology. At the end of my internship the DC
Mayor awarded Capitol Video. Many television industry awards have Capitol
Video’s name on them as top post-production house in the Mid-Atlantic
region. Capitol Video was once the post production house for the Discovery
channel and other cable stations. |
